Since
1952, the Lubbock Symphony Guild has continually supported the Lubbock
Symphony
Orchestra. The Guild is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
with
approximately 300 members. The primary focus of the Guild is
to support the
Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, through both fundraising and volunteer
placements. The primary
annual fundraiser is the Winter Ball, held each spring. Past
fundraisers
have included style shows, in-home
parties and brunches at members’
homes, and a show home. The Guild
is involved with and provides volunteers for
projects including the fifth grade
and junior high education concerts, concert
receptions, pre-concert dinners for
the musicians, LSO office volunteers, and the
debutante program.
The Lubbock
Symphony Debutante Program, sponsored by the Guild, provides an
excellent venue
for young women of high school age to participate in community
service activities that enhance leadership and
interpersonal skills. This
program provides volunteer support for
the LSG while also training young
women to be our future leaders. The
program involves a commitment to
learn about the LSG and to work in a
volunteer capacity with Symphony
events. Senior debutantes are presented
at the Winter Ball. The first
Lubbock Debutante Presentation was in 1980,
with 5 girls introduced at
the Civic Center in pastel gowns; white gowns thereafter. So far,
more than
700 girls have been presented as Lubbock Symphony Guild debutante.
